2024 Service Above Self Award Recipient: Alasdair Roe

On June 26, 2024 we had the distinct pleasure of presenting Rotary's highest honor, the Service Above Self Award. This award recognizes Rotarians who embody our motto, Service Above Self, by dedicating their time and talents to helping others.

This year's recipient is a remarkable individual whose contributions have made a significant impact on our community and beyond. The committee had several great nominees to choose from and lively discussion ensued but we did finally come to consensus.

The tie-breaker came down to the fact that this year's recipient can wield a chainsaw.  It is our honor to announce that the 2024 Service Above Self Award recipient is Alasdair Roe.

  • Alasdair Roe graduated from Florida State University with a degree in marketing

  • Began his career in London at Lloyds of London.

  • Later, became CEO his family-owned insurance companies in Belize, St. Vincent, and St. Lucia, providing high-value, affordable insurance and contributing to community projects like a sustainable park in Belize.

  • Alasdair aims to establish a similar company in Florida.

  • This year, Alasdair initiated our Naloxone training program, training over 200 people to administer this life-saving drug, with a goal to reach over 1,000 people.

  • He also leads our Disaster Relief Group, spending three days in Mayo after Hurricane Idalia and securing a disaster recovery trailer for Tallahassee. He is working to purchase another trailer for our district.

  • Alasdair has completed two Rotary Leadership Institute courses.

  • Outside of Rotary, he coaches his children's sports teams, is active in St. John’s Episcopal Church, and hosted our Italian exchange student, Nicolo.

  • Alasdair and his family also rescued and adopted a dog named Johnny Cash.

Alasdair Roe exemplifies the spirit of Rotary through his unwavering commitment to service, leadership, and community. Please join us in congratulating Alasdair on receiving the 2024 Service Above Self Award!
