Message From the President

John Dombroski
Club President
2012-13

A Warm Rotary Welcome to All –

My first contact with Rotary came in visits to my small town Rotary club during high school days. Even as a teen, I was impressed by the enthusiasm in this small club, and in particular the members' focus on engaging in projects and activities to make life better in that community. I felt that this was an organization I might like to join someday. College, law school, and a 29-year career in the Navy, along with frequent relocations, postponed that day until I retired from the Navy and settled down in Tallahassee. While thinking about how I might want to get involved in this community, a retired Army officer befriended me and soon announced rather summarily that we were going to Rotary for lunch and that I needed to become a member! And so it was, and I am forever grateful to my friend and for the opportunities to serve in Rotary.

This year, the Rotary Club of Tallahassee will mark a 90-year anniversary of service in Tallahassee and the greater global community. Service above self has been and will continue to be our proud tradition. It is the reason why we join together in a fellowship which leverages many different skills, talents, and resources to help improve the lives of those around us who need our help. We do it because, quite simply, it is the right thing to do, it builds community, and it brings a satisfaction that only service to others can bring.

I am enormously thankful for our members' confidence in me and for the opportunity to lead our club in the 2012-13 Rotary year. We have an outstanding group of officers and directors working with me, and a membership dedicated to the mission of Rotary "to provide service to others, promote integrity, and advance world understanding, goodwill, and peace through our fellowship of business, professional, and community leaders." By following the Rotary 4-way test in our vocations and our lives, we send an invitation to others to join this great world-wide organization we know as Rotary – the same invitation I first received long ago as a teenager.

Yours in Rotary Service,
John Dombroski
Club President 2012-13

The Rotary Roast was a huge success!

Special thanks to Roastee Dr. Stan Marshall and all of the Roasters

The Rotary Roast was a huge success! It is estimated that $10,000.00 was raised by the event to help fund Club projects to "Make Dream Real!" The club appreciates the huge effort of Roast Committee Chair Mark Thomasson and members Bill Webb, Tom Kirwin, Judson Chapman, Roger Champion, Donna Thornton, Robert Estevez. A special thank you is given to Richard Moore for his consultation and expert advice; Pat Pallentino, who is providing valuable technological assistance with the videos, and to Charlie Belvin who video-taped the event for the Marshall family. Mrs. Vera Nessen and her friend Dale Robinson made the event classy with piano and percussion ensemble during the cocktail hour. Thanks to them all for their many volunteer hours in our community!
