Message From the President

John Harris, President 2011-2012

John Harris
President, 2011-12

WELCOME
I have been reading David Avant's book on the history of our club summarizing each president's goals since we were founded in 1922 as the 4th Florida Rotary Club; following Jack-sonville, Pensacola, and Live Oak. We had 20 members, lived in a community of 5600, was sponsored by the Thomasville, GA Rotary Club, and the club's first leader was Dr. Frederick Clifton Moor, MD.

Looking at our history and all we have been able to do to serve others with helping hands, open minds, and big spirits, Rotary's purpose really shines because of you and all of our members since being founded. I am looking forward to working with each of you to continue our 89 year tradition of focusing on uplifting projects to make our community and others in all parts of the world more healthy and educated.

Thank you for your confidence; with your Board, I look forward to reaching within to embrace humanity by acts of service to others. Being invited to become a Rotarian in 1978 was one of the highlights of my life as it has gifted me with so many paths of service I might have otherwise missed. I hope we all will act to practice the 4-way test in our vocations so we can demonstrate to others what it means to be a Rotar-ian.

Yours in Rotary Service,
John Harris
President 2011 - 2012

By Lori McCall

Eleven years ago when I was nominated for membership in the Rotary Club of Tallahassee, I didn’t know much about Rotary. Even after I joined, I really didn’t understand what it was all about, but the more I learned, the more I got involved and it has changed my life.

The Rotary Roast was a huge success!
Special thanks to Roastee Dr. Stan Marshall and all of the
Roasters

The Rotary Roast was a huge success! It is estimated that $10,000.00 was raised by the event to help fund Club projects to “Make Dream Real!” The club appreciates the huge effort of Roast Committee Chair Mark Thomasson and members Bill Webb, Tom Kirwin, Judson Chapman, Roger Champion, Donna Thornton, Robert Estevez. A special thank you is given to Richard Moore for his consultation and expert advice; Pat Pallentino, who is providing valuable technological assistance with the videos, and to Charlie Belvin who video-taped the event for the Marshall family. Mrs. Vera Nessen and her friend Dale Robinson made the event classy with piano and percussion ensemble during the cocktail hour. Thanks to them all for their many volunteer hours in our community!
